Learn how the Federal budget works and how $$$ are made available to the various agencies- and how the federal “grants calendar” works – and how to use grants.gov and the various agency websites to identify potential opportunities well in advance of the deadline date when the application is due. How to forecast opportunities. How to identify helpful organizations that support the various grant programs for networking and examples/best practices.
About the Presenter:
Kent Hornberger
Kent Hornberger is a Certified Grant Professional with over 40 years of experience in nonprofit management and fund raising.
Kent currently serves of the national board of the Grant Professionals Certification Institute that is dedicated to strengthening the nonprofit sector’s ability to pursue and maintain public and private sector funding by promoting competency and ethical practices within the field of grantsmanship.
Kent is immediate Past-President of the St. Louis Regional Chapter of the GPA and served for three years as the Chairman of the GPA’s Higher Education Special Interest Group. He has held leadership positions in other professional organizations including the Association for Fundraising Professionals, and the Jesuit Advancement Association.
Kent has taught courses on the principles and practices of grant writing/management, critical analysis skills, communications, ethics and project management at several St. Louis area colleges and universities. He has been a frequent workshop presenter at both regional and national conferences of the Grant Professionals Association, the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, the Council for the Advancement of Support for Education, the Jesuit Advancement Association, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He has also served on the board of numerous not-for-profit organizations including Catholic Family Services and EarthDance Farms.
