Human Resources and Volunteer Management: It might not seem like the two are connected, but volunteers, like employees, are valuable resources for non profits.  Learn about which best practices from Human Resources translate to the world of Volunteer Management. Identify what strengths of successful volunteer management program can be shared with Human Resources. With this knowledge in hand, you will have the knowledge necessary to work with your own HR department to build a team of volunteers (and employees) who advance your mission!
Instructor Emily Lane is a lecturer of Management and Organizational Behavior for the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Business Administration. Emily holds a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and she also earned her certification as a SPHR – Senior Professional in Human Resources. She teaches “Staff Management Issues in Nonprofit Organizations” for the UMSL Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program.

MVMA logoThis course will qualify for 6 credit hours toward the Chancellor’s Certificate in Volunteer Management. In order to obtain this noncredit chancellor’s certificate, individuals must enroll in, and complete, 16 or more hours of training in classes and/or events that are produced as part of the collaboration between Metropolitan Volunteer Management Association (MVMA) and the NPML program.
