This workshop is for current and aspiring nonprofit staff executives and board leaders\, including incoming board members\, who want to learn and apply promising practices based on the latest research for making their boards even more effective and their staff-board relationships more productive and satisfying. It will also provide an opportunity for workshop participants to share with their peers the greatest challenges and successful strategies for strengthening board effectiveness. The learning activities will mix plenary presentation and discussion\, panel presentation and question and answer with a diverse set of nonprofit leaders\, and small\, break out group discussions.\nThe workshop will address topics such as:\n(1) the nonprofit board’s primary roles and responsibilities;\n(2) promising practices and tips from the latest academic research on board development and effectiveness\, from board composition\, recruitment and on-boarding through engagement and leadership development to evaluation and renewal;\n(3) a new model containing successful methods to determine the best working relationship for board and staff at the full board\, committee\, and individual member levels.\nInstructor John McClusky is a consultant and educator of nonprofit leadership and has worked locally\, nationally\, and internationally with hundreds of NPOs and thousands of nonprofit leaders. In the first year of being an official part of the development team\, she helped increase fundraising for the Central and Southern Illinois region of One Hope United by over 60%. She brings to One Hope United experience building successful teams and a background in not only communications and fundraising\, but mental health and counseling. Melissa is a licensed therapist (LCPC) and has worked in the field for over 17 years. Melissa is a graduate of Indiana State University\, with a BS in Communications and an MS in Agency Counseling.\nJayme Godoyo is a Fund Development Officer for One Hope United\, covering the Central and Southern Illinois region. In her five years with the agency\, Jayme has been involved in numerous changes\, the most recent being the realignment of the team into one entity\, thus dissolving the regional lines. Since that transition began in early 2015\, development income has more than doubled agency-wide. Jayme brings experience in direct service work with residential youth to the team as well as a background in marketing and communications. Haley\, CFRE\nPrincipal\, Let’s Build Hope\, LLC\nSince 1995\, Linda has successfully developed funds\, helping to raise more than $100 million for various non-profits\, including religious\, social services\, educational\, and healthcare organizations.  She coordinated the annual fund efforts of nine major ministries of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod and then provided leadership on a $440 million campaign.  Linda led Advancement Services’ efforts for McKendree University before moving to Zielinski Companies to work as a fund development consultant.  There\, Linda directed a team of three senior consultants and created popular development products\, increasing sales revenue by 658% during her five-year tenure.\nLinda moved into the social services realm in 2006\, serving as Chief Development Officer for TouchPoint Autism Services and growing fund development revenue by 271% in five years.  Linda became CDO for Youth Learning Center\, where she led her own one-person shop and built the development program from the ground up!  Realizing a long-time dream\, Linda started Let’s Build Hope\, LLC\, in 2013.  She now works closely with various nonprofit agencies\, teaching\, coaching\, and mentoring development officers\, staff at all levels\, and volunteer leaders\, especially Board members.\nLinda obtained her CFRE credential in 2001\, maintaining it for 14 years and now facilitating the CFRE Review Course in St. Louis.  She serves in various volunteer capacities with non-profits in St. Louis\, including as a Marketing Committee member for Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri and on the Conference and Sponsorship Committees of AFP St. Louis.  Linda writes and speaks regularly about fund development and has been published in The Major Gifts Report and Successful Fundraising.
