SUMMARY:Developing Performance Measures and Evaluation Plans for Complex Proposals
DESCRIPTION:Federal grants are notoriously complicated. Definitions and requirements for goals\, objectives\, impact\, outcomes\, indicators\, performance measures\, and similar terms are not always consistent\, nor are expectations for what grantees must do to measure and report on their progress. Large foundations and grants from local\, regional and state governmental entities may pose similar challenges. This workshop is intended for development and program staff who work on complex grant proposals to assist in navigating application requirements and coming up with no-nonsense plans to meet funders’ expectations. \nAbout the Presenter: Leslie Scheuler\, Ph.D.\nLeslie has worked as a consultant\, trainer and researcher with nonprofit organizations\, educational and arts/cultural institutions\, grant-makers and businesses for more than 25 years to support them in positive impacts for clients\, other stakeholders\, and communities. SUMMARY:Anatomy of a Donor Letter
DESCRIPTION:About the Session\n\n\nJust like surgeons need to know the shape of the skeleton\, the physical layout of the internal organs\, and the connective tissues of the muscles and ligaments in order to perform a delicate surgery\, fundraisers need to know the essentials of a good letter in order to effectively reach their audience and encourage maximum giving. From what to include (a PS\, of course!) and what to exclude (condescension and jargon\, obviously)\, to how it all looks\, a good letter takes skill as well as an understanding of current best practices.\nIn this interactive session\, a fundraising consultant (Amie) and a copywriter (Stephan) will show you the essential elements of a good fundraising letter. Live examples from local and national organizations will be used to highlight the good\, the bad\, and (occasionally) the ugly.\nAttendees will leave with specific tools and resource recommendations\, including a checklist to help them better plan and deliver their next control-beating letter. \nAbout the Presenters\nAmie Bossi\, MPPA\, CFRE is an independent fundraising consultant who has worked with numerous local nonprofits in various roles to improve their operations and expand their revenue. Her experience covers everything from direct mail to major gifts for nonprofits in the St. Louis region and beyond. She can be reached at amiebossi9@gmail.com.\nStephan Mathys is a freelance copywriter who has written letters\, e-mails\, grants\, and other marketing and fundraising content for missions in the St. Louis area and across the country. His prior career as an insurance data specialist allows him to not only offer content creation but strategic planning and financial forecasting skill. SUMMARY:Using Data to Inform Decisions and Plans
DESCRIPTION:People who lead programs\, teams\, departments or organizations are frequently charged with making difficult decisions based on incomplete information. This workshop will draw from evaluative thinking\, performance management\, strategic planning\, and quality improvement techniques to encourage and equip nonprofit professionals to: 1) identify the data they need and 2) to share it and use it to make fact-based decisions and manageable and measurable plans.\nInstructor Sarah Buek is the Founder and Principal of The IllumiLab\, a consulting firm that helps nonprofits define\, measure\, and improve their impact. She has worked for the past 14 years in the non-profit sector first as a clinical social worker and later in program management\, evaluation\, and quality improvement.  As a funder and consultant\, she’s led dozens of non-profits in the development of Theories of Change and Logic Models\, the design of data collection tools and processes\, the creation of quality improvement systems\, and the use of performance management to create cultures of learning and continuous improvement.
