DESCRIPTION:The foundation of supervision is proper and appropriate delegation\, and that is often the challenge in most supervisory relationships.  Although delegation is often viewed as only relevant in the supervisor’s realm\, issues related to emotional intelligence\, position match and fit as well staff expectations often drive successful delegation or impede progress. DESCRIPTION:According to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report\, approximately $37 billion is wasted in the United States each year due to unnecessary meetings. Meetings come in all shapes and sizes\, from the convention to a quick huddle in an office hallway. This presentation will focus on mid-to-small-size working meetings with groups who have a job to do requiring the energy\, commitment and talents of those who participate.\nCo-workers want results from their time together: solving problems\, brainstorming or simply sharing information. Haley\, CFRE\nPrincipal\, Let’s Build Hope\, LLC\nSince 1995\, Linda has successfully developed funds\, helping to raise more than $100 million for various non-profits\, including religious\, social services\, educational\, and healthcare organizations.  She coordinated the annual fund efforts of nine major ministries of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod and then provided leadership on a $440 million campaign.  Linda led Advancement Services’ efforts for McKendree University before moving to Zielinski Companies to work as a fund development consultant.  There\, Linda directed a team of three senior consultants and created popular development products\, increasing sales revenue by 658% during her five-year tenure.\nLinda moved into the social services realm in 2006\, serving as Chief Development Officer for TouchPoint Autism Services and growing fund development revenue by 271% in five years.  Linda became CDO for Youth Learning Center\, where she led her own one-person shop and built the development program from the ground up!  Realizing a long-time dream\, Linda started Let’s Build Hope\, LLC\, in 2013.  She now works closely with various nonprofit agencies\, teaching\, coaching\, and mentoring development officers\, staff at all levels\, and volunteer leaders\, especially Board members.\nLinda obtained her CFRE credential in 2001\, maintaining it for 14 years and now facilitating the CFRE Review Course in St. Louis.  She serves in various volunteer capacities with non-profits in St. Louis\, including as a Marketing Committee member for Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri and on the Conference and Sponsorship Committees of AFP St. Louis.  Linda writes and speaks regularly about fund development and has been published in The Major Gifts Report and Successful Fundraising.

DESCRIPTION:Creating Successful Group Dynamics: How to Build Better Teams\, Committees\, and Collaborations\n \nThursday\, Nov. 19\, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Social Sciences and Business building\, Room SSB 411 (on the UMSL north campus). \n“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful\, committed\, citizens can change the world. Indeed\, it is the only thing that ever has.”   Margaret Mead \nGroups\, committees and collaborative efforts are essential parts of the work in a nonprofit organization.  What is the essence of “group process” and what is the role of the professional in creating successful group dynamics?  How does a staff person know when to lead and when to step back to ensure others feel empowered? This class highlights the stages and elements of  collective impact\, including the professional skills required to simultaneously meet the needs and expectations of participants\, while staying focused on the organization’s mission.  Come to this class to learn how to create and foster successful group dynamics within your nonprofit organization. \nInstructor Marci Mayer Eisen has worked in the St. Louis nonprofit community for 30+ years with an emphasis on community building.  She is the Director of the Millstone Institute\, a leadership development initiative of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis. She previously coordinated interfaith social justice programs at the Jewish Community Relations Council and ran parenting programs and family events at the Jewish Community Center. She has served as a key consultant with Nonprofit Services Center for the last ten years.\nJane brings a 360◦ perspective to her work as a nonprofit governance consultant.  She has served on the boards of many organizations and state commissions and has served as president or an officer many times.  In addition\, she has served as the executive director of a nonprofit.  This first person experience is complimented by professional training.  Jane has completed programs in Advanced Board Consulting\, Assessment of Governing Boards and in the Governance as Leadership model through BoardSource.\nIn addition to her consulting practice\, Jane is an Adjunct Professor in the Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program at University of Missouri St. Louis. Yet those in middle positions commonly report that their jobs are demanding and stressful. Leading from the Middle aims at transforming middle positions into the drivers of integrated and effective change in their organization.\nAn interactive workshop which focuses on the dilemmas\, challenges\, system power possibilities and contributions of middle positions. Participants will engage in two simulations that enable them to identify specific actions that enhance their leadership at whatever level they are in their organizations.\nParticipants will learn about the 4 spaces of Organization life (Top\, Middle\, Bottom and Customer) and learn the predictable conditions in each space\, developed by Barry Oshry\, global social scientist and founder of Power + Systems. Participants will also identify specific actions they can take to increase their human system power in each of these spaces.\nAbout the Facilitator:\nKevin Purcell\nOrganization Development Consultant\nPower + Systems\nKevin is a consultant for Power + Systems. He has worked internally for both Microsoft (Seattle) and Memorial Health Systems (Springfield\, Ill) as Director of Organization Development.\nHe has conducted this workshop for the past 25 years around the world. Kevin’s non-profit experience includes working with Planned Parenthood\, Illinois Arts Council\, and founding two theater companies that are thriving today. He is currently Senior Consultant for Power + Systems and also Adjunct Faculty in the MBA program at University of Illinois-Springfield.
