Fundraising 101/102 will be facilitated by two advanced professionals with a combined 30 years of experience in the field.\nMeet the Presenters\nJim Schallom\, MPPA\, CFRE\nSenior Director of Development\,\nCollege of Business Administration\nUniversity of Missouri – St. Louis\nJim Schallom\, MPPA\, CFRE\, is Senior Director of Development at the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he is responsible for all capital\, endowment\, program\, and scholarship fundraising for the College of Business Administration. He has 15 years of comprehensive experience in nonprofit fundraising and leadership. Prior roles have included Director of Resource Development for Sherwood Forest\, Director of Development for Missouri & Indiana at College Summit\, and Membership Director for the Saint Louis Science Center.\nJim has served on the AFP St. Louis Board of Directors for six years and is currently Chapter President. He holds a BA in Education and Certificate in Business Administration from Saint Louis University and a Masters of Public Policy Administration and Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Jim earned designation as a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2014 and was recognized by AFP St. Louis as Outstanding Young Professional at National Philanthropy Day in 2015.\nTheresa Fleck\, CFRE\nSenior Consultant\nLet’s Build Hope\, LLC\nTheresa L. Fleck\, CFRE\, has been raising funds successfully since 2001. Ms. Fleck has extensive experience developing strategy and executing fundraising plans for a wide range of nonprofit organizations\, including universities\, independent schools\, social service agencies\, international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and arts organizations.\nShe has a proven track record of designing and implementing comprehensive strategic and tactical plans for all levels of fund development and considerable training in planned and major gifts\, capital campaigns\, event planning\, annual fund execution\, donor stewardship and board development. A seasoned fundraising professional\, Ms. Fleck has managed\, mentored and collaborated with boards\, volunteers and staff to focus on the identification and long-term cultivation of donors. Her career experience also includes strategic planning\, admissions\, board training\, executive-level leadership\, marketing\, public relations and communications.\nMs. Fleck is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE)\, a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the St. Louis Planned Giving Council (SLPGC). She has spoken regionally at professional development sessions for both the Rhode Island and Greater St. Louis Chapters of AFP and nationally for the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Our panelists include experience in professional fundraising\, communications\, executive leadership\, and a board perspective.\nMeet the Panelists:  \n\nDonna McGinnis\,\nExecutive Director at Naples Botanical Garden\nDonna McGinnis is President and CEO of Naples Botanical Garden in Naples\, Florida. She is a native of Seattle and spent many years in St. Louis where she served in leadership positions at the Missouri Botanical Garden and Missouri History Museum.  She was also a consultant with The Rome Group and an adjunct professor at Washington University for a decade.\nDonna holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications\, an MBA\, and the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential. She serves in a leadership role with the American Alliance of Museums and is actively involved in domestic and international conservation issues. \n\nRamon Cruz\,\nBoard of Directors at the National Sierra Club\nRamón Cruz has over 15 years of experience intersecting the fields of sustainability\, environmental policy\, urban planning\, energy and climate change. He has worked in the public sector in his native Puerto Rico as the Deputy Director of the Environmental Quality Board\, the state environmental regulatory agency and as Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Energy Commission.\nHe has also worked in the non-governmental sector in senior positions at the Environmental Defense Fund\, the Partnership for New York City and the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy. He has been a consultant for the World Bank\, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). Ramón is a graduate of American University in Washington D.C. and Princeton University in New Jersey. \n\nMiranda Lewis\,\nExecutive Director\, Foundation Channel Marketing and Communication at Mercy Health Foundation\nMiranda has worked at Mercy Hospital since 2007\, serving currently as Executive Director\, Foundation Channel Marketing and Communication. She worked as the media coordinator for four years\, and served as the spokesperson for the hospital at the time of the Joplin tornado\, dealing with local\, national and international media. In the wake of the disaster\, Miranda had the opportunity to share her experience and lessons learned as a guest speaker at several crisis communication conferences such as Missouri Hospital Association\, Indiana Hospital Association\, Public Relations Society of America – Orlando Chapter and the California Association of Public Information Officials. \nKEYNOTE ADDRESS\nHandy Lindsey\, Jr.\, President of the Ruth Mott Foundation in Flint\, Michigan will deliver a keynote address you won’t want to miss. \n\nHandy Lindsey\, Jr.\,\nPresident of the Ruth Mott Foundation in\nFlint\, Michigan\nGrowing up poor as the oldest child of two Mississippi sharecroppers\, Handy Lindsey Jr. knew focusing on his education would be his pathway out of poverty. After moving to an impoverished neighborhood in north St. Louis\, Handy earned a scholarship and graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1971 – a triumph that altered the course of his life. Since then\, he has dedicated his life to working in philanthropy\, a profession that gives him the opportunity to help improve the quality of life for other families in need. Currently\, Handy is President of the Ruth Mott Foundation in Flint\, Michigan\, which is still recovering from a water crisis that exposed thousands of vulnerable residents to unsafe levels of lead in their drinking water. In addition to the Ruth Mott Foundation’s work around the water crisis\, Handy led the implementation of the Foundation’s new strategy that focuses grantmaking in the areas of youth\, public safety\, economic opportunity\, and neighborhoods.\nHandy has 30+ years of leadership experience in professional philanthropy. He joined the staff of The Ruth Mott Foundation of Flint Michigan in September 2014 as its President. In the interim between that post and his retirement as President of the Cameron Foundation of Petersburg\, Virginia in 2012\, he managed an independent consulting practice that focused on executive effectiveness and advising foundations in organizational development\, program planning and strategy and capacity building for nonprofit excellence. He led the Field Foundation of Illinois in Chicago from 1988 until 2003. Between 1980 and 1988 he served the Chicago Community Trust in several positions including Assistant Director\, Staff Associate\, Senior Staff Associate and Executive Director of the Chicago Area Foundation for Legal Services\, a supporting organization. He has also worked as a consultant to the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and in Corporate Contributions with the local telephone company. Handy was instrumental in the development of the East St. Louis Community Foundation\, where he served as interim Executive Director in 1985-86. Handy has extensive nonprofit governance experience having served on the board of directors of more than two dozen civic organizations\, policy institutes\, and professional associations of philanthropy\, most in leadership roles such as member of the executive or management committee or chairman. Immediate past experience includes four years as a member of the executive committee of the Southeastern Council of Foundations and two years as chairman of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations. Handy studied at the University of Chicago where he earned an M.B.A. from the Booth School of Business\, an M.A. from the School of Social Services Administration (SSA)\, and an undergraduate degree in Sociology. DESCRIPTION:About the Workshop: The ABC’s of MOU’s\nMany governmental agencies and foundations require that you partner with other agencies/organizations to secure funding.  During this session you will examine the key elements and guidelines to develop an effective Memorandum of Understanding.  You will also learn the difference between a MOU\, a letter of commitment and a letter of support.  You will receive examples.  Formal partnerships make your job easier and contribute towards sustainability.\n \nAbout the Presenter: \nKent Hornberger \nKent Hornberger is a Certified Grant Professional with over 40 years of experience in nonprofit management and fund raising.\nKent currently serves of the national board of the Grant Professionals Certification Institute that is dedicated to strengthening the nonprofit sector’s ability to pursue and maintain public and private sector funding by promoting competency and ethical practices within the field of grantsmanship.\nKent is immediate Past-President of the St. Louis Regional Chapter of the GPA and served for three years as the Chairman of the GPA’s Higher Education Special Interest Group.  He has held leadership positions in other professional organizations including the Association for Fundraising Professionals\, and the Jesuit Advancement Association.\nKent has taught courses on the principles and practices of grant writing/management\, critical analysis skills\, communications\, ethics and project management at several St. Louis area colleges and universities.  He has been a frequent workshop presenter at both regional and national conferences of the Grant Professionals Association\, the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy\, the Council for the Advancement of Support for Education\, the Jesuit Advancement Association\, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  He has also served on the board of numerous not-for-profit organizations including Catholic Family Services and EarthDance Farms.

Join three diversity-focused fundraisers for a discussion about the importance of\, and opportunities provided by\, inclusion in the charitable sector.\n \nAt the end of this session participants will understand:\n  \n\nThe relationship and differences between “diversity” and “inclusion.”\nHow diverse communities are influencing and reshaping the ways we build relationships with donors and volunteers.\nStrategies for cross-cultural fundraising and reaching out to diverse donors.\n\n \n*This session is eligible for 1 hour of ACFRE Leadership or Ethics credit.\n \nAbout the presenters:\n \n\nAnne Brennan\, who is legally blind\, is the director of development for the Triangle Radio Reading Service (TRRS)\, a service for the blind and print impaired based in Raleigh\, NC.  A native New Yorker\, she is a graduate of Russell Sage College where she earned a B.S. in Psychology and Public Service with a concentration in Health Administration.   Anne’s nonprofit career spans three plus wonderful decades serving in the disability services arena\, hospital foundation\, education\, food banking\, social service\, medical membership association management and nonprofit management consulting.  She is a great advocate for people with disabilities and works passionately toward making accessibility for people with all types of handicaps the best that it can be.\n \n\nGina M.  Flores is the Senior Advancement Officer for the Smithsonian Latino Center\, guiding the unitâ€™s development efforts and involvement in the Smithsonian Campaign.  She also works closely with the Smithsonian National Latino Board (SNLB). Ms. Flores comes to the Smithsonian from the National Council of La Raza where she managed their corporate development efforts.   Prior to NCLR\, Ms. Flores was an executive recruiter at Isaacson\, Miller; promoted Latino outreach at the American Red Cross National Headquarters; and worked in program management at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. In 2004\, she participated in the Smithsonian James E. Webb fellowship program for minority business and public administration students.\n \n\nKrishan Mehta is Executive Director\, Campaign at Ryerson University. Previously\, he held a variety of senior fundraising\, alumni and marketing roles at Seneca College and the University of Toronto. Krishan is also an instructor in Ryersonâ€™s fundraising management program and a PhD candidate at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education where he is conducting research on the philanthropy of high net-worth immigrants in Canada. He serves as President-Elect of the AFP Greater Toronto Chapter and was co-chair of AFP Diversity to Inclusion Series\, which was the first phase of this exciting inclusion initiative in Ontario. Krishan is an active volunteer in the community\, having served as board chair at the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention\, and advancement chair and board member at Social Planning Toronto. Adrian has received many awards for his services to the profession\, notably being named to the prestigious Nonprofit Times Power and Influence List in the United States in 2010. In the UK he also received a Civil Society Award for his Outstanding Contribution to Fundraising.\n \n\nIan MacQuillin is director of Rogare\, the fundraising think tank at Plymouth University\, where he edits the Critical Fundraising blog and is studying for a PhD\, exploring the fundamental drivers of stakeholder objections to fundraising.
