SUMMARY:POP Goes Development
DESCRIPTION:As development professionals\, we are charged with the huge task of juggling many different segments of donor activities: major donors\, direct mail\, marketing\, events\, board relationships\, and even planned giving. This presentation will help prioritize and give clarity to those individuals who always feel they are reacting rather than being proactive in their work to ensure the greatest return. This presentation is especially informative for smaller organizations where the development director is in charge of many different areas.

SUMMARY:Digital Donor Recruitment: 7 Steps to Turn Online Followers into New Donors
DESCRIPTION:Nearly all nonprofits have fallen into this trap: we’ve built our homes on rented land\, with social media as the main avenue to grow our influence and find new donors. Now that Facebook\, YouTube\, Instagram and even LinkedIn are public companies\, the algorithms that we couldn’t control in the first place are now being dictated more and more by paid posts. This will only increase in the future.\nNonprofits must pivot towards brand-building tactics that provide reliable reach. It can be done. Learn to build your house on land you own. This workshop will teach you the seven steps to grow your base of support in reliable and consistent ways. \nAbout the Presenter:  Maryanne Dersch\nMaryanne Dersch is a teacher and coach for nonprofits in board leadership\, fundraising and marketing. Her company\, Courageous Communication\, works with boards and organizational leadership to create cultures that work in trust\, connection and ease to create a bigger impact.\nShe developed a method of fundraising\, Superstar Fundraising\, so organizations can have energy\, resources and donors flowing to them and end the chase and grind of fundraising. She wrote the book Courageous Communication: How Codependence Is Making Your Nonprofit Brand Boring and What to Do About It so nonprofits can own\, understand and share their value to attract like-minded donors.\nMaryanne has spent her professional career in or serving the nonprofit sector. Previous to starting Courageous Communication\, she spent 16 years at 501creative\, where she led fundraising and marketing planning projects\, wrote plans and developed creative material. Before 501creative\, she was a consultant at Vector Communications for four years. \nShe has served on boards and committees over the years\, including Community Service Public Relations Council and the Saint Louis Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has served on the board of Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition until they became her client. She has fostered dogs for Stray Rescue of Saint Louis for 20 years.\nMaryanne graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1988 with a degree in journalism. She has three children adopted from foster care with her husband. She is known for her love of ultrahigh heels\, extra-large Diet Cokes\, and short karaoke rotations.

SUMMARY:How to Become a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
DESCRIPTION:A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) is a fundraising professional who has gone the extra mile to confirm their own mastery of fundraising practices. The CFRE is the only accredited\, globally recognized certification for fundraising professionals. The 2018 Compensation and Benefits Study conducted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals shows that in 2018\, CFREs in the United States earned on average $21\,000 more than their non-certified counterparts. Nearly 99% of CFREs say earning their CFRE gave them a sense of personal achievement.\nThinking of earning your CFRE? Interested in learning more about the application process? Have you already started the process and are curious to learn more about study tips\, the test itself\, and other insights from an experienced CFRE? At this seminar you will learn first-hand knowledge from a CFRE Ambassador about the application process from start to finish. Having played many different roles within organizations\, from Program Manager to Development Director\, she understands the importance of building a spirit of philanthropy and maintaining it throughout development work. She is currently writing a book about fundraising and the idea that fundraising isn’t scary\, and anyone can do it! DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop explores the value of moves management for major gift programs. You can make moves management a “healthy habit” by institutionalizing this vital process into your development program. Embracing moves management will make you a more intentional fundraiser and you won’t have to scramble through the tyranny of the annual fund because you will know – at a glance – where you are with your key donors. \nAbout the Presenter:  Wendy Dyer\nWendy has enjoyed working with hundreds of nonprofits in more than two decades as a consultant\, from north to south and throughout the Midwest.  She has helped pump millions of dollars into the economy – expanding programs and building schools\, health centers and cultural places – bringing opportunity to thousands of people.  A frequent presenter and trainer\, Wendy encourages agencies to find their “sizzle” and embrace her mantra that “People are giving money away\, anyway\, might as well be to you.”  She is currently helping to manage $80 million in projects across the region.

SUMMARY:Anatomy of a Donor Letter
DESCRIPTION:About the Session\n\n\nJust like surgeons need to know the shape of the skeleton\, the physical layout of the internal organs\, and the connective tissues of the muscles and ligaments in order to perform a delicate surgery\, fundraisers need to know the essentials of a good letter in order to effectively reach their audience and encourage maximum giving. From what to include (a PS\, of course!) and what to exclude (condescension and jargon\, obviously)\, to how it all looks\, a good letter takes skill as well as an understanding of current best practices.\nIn this interactive session\, a fundraising consultant (Amie) and a copywriter (Stephan) will show you the essential elements of a good fundraising letter. Live examples from local and national organizations will be used to highlight the good\, the bad\, and (occasionally) the ugly.\nAttendees will leave with specific tools and resource recommendations\, including a checklist to help them better plan and deliver their next control-beating letter. \nAbout the Presenters\nAmie Bossi\, MPPA\, CFRE is an independent fundraising consultant who has worked with numerous local nonprofits in various roles to improve their operations and expand their revenue. Her experience covers everything from direct mail to major gifts for nonprofits in the St. Louis region and beyond. She can be reached at amiebossi9@gmail.com.\nStephan Mathys is a freelance copywriter who has written letters\, e-mails\, grants\, and other marketing and fundraising content for missions in the St. Louis area and across the country. His prior career as an insurance data specialist allows him to not only offer content creation but strategic planning and financial forecasting skill.
