SUMMARY:Digital Donor Recruitment: 7 Steps to Turn Online Followers into New Donors
DESCRIPTION:About the Workshop:  \nNearly all nonprofits have fallen into this trap: we’ve built our homes on rented land\, with social media as the main avenue to grow our influence and find new donors. But we don’t control that space and who sees our content. And the algorithms change\, older platforms fall out of favor as new ones emerge and it is hard to keep up with the changes. \nNonprofits can pivot towards brand-building tactics that provide reliable reach.  Learn to build your house on land you own. This workshop will teach you the seven steps to grow your base of support in reliable and consistent ways. \nAbout the Presenter: Maryanne Dersch \nMaryanne Dersch coaches and trains nonprofit leaders to master the art of influence\, so they can raise more money without feeling rejected or pushy. Her “effervescent badassery” calls you to be more influential in your work\, life and even in your own view of self. \nShe has spent almost thirty years working in the nonprofit world helping organizations communicate more effectively internally and externally. From those experiences she authored\, Courageous Communication: Why codependence is making your nonprofit brand boring and what to do about it. She also produces and hosts The Influential Nonprofit podcast and the annual Donor Attraction Forum virtual event. \nShe is leading a movement to change “nonprofit” to “human investment company” to accurately reflect the contributions of the sector. She’s known for her love of ultrahigh heels\, extra-large Diet Cokes\, and short karaoke rotations.

SUMMARY:Storytelling: Your Most Powerful Tool in Nonprofit Marketing
DESCRIPTION:WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?\nWe all want to be part of an epic story where we are the hero. We have wanted it since we were children reading bedtime stories with our parents or watching our first films on the Big Screen. We are the central figure in our life’s epic of breakups\, successes\, failures\, and adventure. However\, when your nonprofit markets itself\, it can’t be the hero. The people you serve and your donors must be the hero; the nonprofit is just the guide. Your organization is the Obi-wan\, and they are the Luke Skywalkers. In the presentation\, filmmaker Dan Parris breaks down the elements of a story and how your nonprofit can use this powerful tool to draw current donors deeper into the mission and attract new donors.\nUsing examples from organizations like Charity Water\, When the Saints and Almost Home\, Dan makes a compelling argument about how understanding story and who the hero is changes everything about our nonprofit marketing. You will dive into story structure and how that can be persuasively applied to blogs\, podcasts\, email blasts\, promotional videos and virtual fundraisers/events. We will talk about the importance of character\, conflict\, and calls to action when it comes to the work your organization does and talk about tips on how to communicate this well. The talk will be interactive\, and you will leave the presentation understanding how the 5 parts of a story apply to the organization you work with and the story you all are compelling donors to join.\nThis session has been approved for 1 CFRE point.\nDan Parris\nCo-Founder\nSpeak Up Studios\nDan Parris is an award-winning filmmaker and co-founder of Speak Up Studios\, a St. Louis based video production company specializing in non-profit storytelling. Their past clients include Parents as Teachers\, St. Louis Public Radio\, St. Louis Aquarium Foundation\, UMSL\, SLU\, The Salvation Army\, The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis\, Missouri Baptist Healthcare Foundation\, Wings of Hope and Deaconess Foundation\, to name a few. Speak Up Studios has helped nonprofits raise millions through the use of video and storytelling and are passionate about the collective impact happening in our region. Dan also directed the feature-length documentaries Show Me Democracy and What Matters?\, was the closing speaker at TEDxGatewayArch and co-founded the non-profit\, Continuity\, whose mission is to expand diversity in media production. Dan lives in South City St. Louis with his wife and 4 kids.

SUMMARY:Digital Donor Recruitment: 7 Steps to Turn Online Followers into New Donors
DESCRIPTION:Nearly all nonprofits have fallen into this trap: we’ve built our homes on rented land\, with social media as the main avenue to grow our influence and find new donors. Now that Facebook\, YouTube\, Instagram and even LinkedIn are public companies\, the algorithms that we couldn’t control in the first place are now being dictated more and more by paid posts. This will only increase in the future.\nNonprofits must pivot towards brand-building tactics that provide reliable reach. It can be done. Learn to build your house on land you own. This workshop will teach you the seven steps to grow your base of support in reliable and consistent ways. \nAbout the Presenter:  Maryanne Dersch\nMaryanne Dersch is a teacher and coach for nonprofits in board leadership\, fundraising and marketing. Her company\, Courageous Communication\, works with boards and organizational leadership to create cultures that work in trust\, connection and ease to create a bigger impact.\nShe developed a method of fundraising\, Superstar Fundraising\, so organizations can have energy\, resources and donors flowing to them and end the chase and grind of fundraising. She wrote the book Courageous Communication: How Codependence Is Making Your Nonprofit Brand Boring and What to Do About It so nonprofits can own\, understand and share their value to attract like-minded donors.\nMaryanne has spent her professional career in or serving the nonprofit sector. Previous to starting Courageous Communication\, she spent 16 years at 501creative\, where she led fundraising and marketing planning projects\, wrote plans and developed creative material. Before 501creative\, she was a consultant at Vector Communications for four years. \nShe has served on boards and committees over the years\, including Community Service Public Relations Council and the Saint Louis Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has served on the board of Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition until they became her client. She has fostered dogs for Stray Rescue of Saint Louis for 20 years.\nMaryanne graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1988 with a degree in journalism. She has three children adopted from foster care with her husband. She is known for her love of ultrahigh heels\, extra-large Diet Cokes\, and short karaoke rotations.
